Browse top US counties
County is where most of your real-life paperwork after a move actually lands — taxes, voting, vehicle registration, school district. We aggregate every ZIP in the 250 largest US counties into a single browsable hub.
Why a county view matters
ZIP codes are great for understanding the texture of a neighborhood, and metros are great for understanding a labor market — but the county is where most of the legal scaffolding around a move actually lives. Property taxes are usually assessed by the county, school districts often follow county boundaries, and the county clerk’s office is where you’ll go to record a deed or pull a marriage license. After settling on a candidate ZIP, see our relocation guide for the right county-level paperwork checklist.
This index ranks counties by total population across the ZIPs we cover. The largest US counties — Los Angeles, Cook, Harris, Maricopa, San Diego — each contain more residents than several entire US states, and inside each one you’ll find genuine sub-markets that diverge sharply from the county average. Use the county hub as a triage layer above the ZIP profiles, then drill into individual ZIPs to find the block that actually fits.
